Upcycled Sweater Stocking for Christmas [Easy Steps]

Are you looking to refresh the contents of your Christmas goody bags? Repurpose unwanted sweaters by making Christmas stockings out of them.

This is an excellent method to repurpose an old sweater, which you may have been considering throwing away. In such a case, you should go to the secondhand shop in your area and look for a few sweaters that include the designs or colors that you like most.

My friend Christy, who blogs at Confessions of a Serial DIYer, fashioned Christmas stockings out of old sweaters for us to exchange the year before, and I immediately fell in love with them.

However, I am not familiar with how to use a sewing machine. So then, what is a young lady to do? Sew by hand and use hot glue!! Because I won’t be wearing them, the use of hot glue was an excellent choice.

As can be seen, the fundamental design is already there in the repurposed sweaters; all that has to be done is flip it upside down.

I managed to squeeze four Christmas stockings out of a single sweater. You might even upcycle two items by using the same designs and utilizing the same material on both sides.

I chose a material called canvas for the backs so that I could make four different fronts out of the same cloth. When I first started making my vintage chairs, I utilized canvas as the primary material. My purchase of the canvas was made at JoAnn.

Following the step in which you cut the upcycled sweaters, you should next pin the two materials together and cut the canvas. Be careful to turn the object so that the side you want to be shown is towards the inside.

To stitch the two pieces together, I used a large needle and some yarn. Turn the garment inside out. (A word of caution: threading canvas is NOT simple)

I made the decision to utilize another sweater that I had purchased at a thrift shop that had comparable silver shinnys in it. I removed the hems and adhered to a piece of fabric directly beneath the top fold of the fabric. I made the hanger out of a thinner piece of trim.

Last but not least, I used a sharpie to write initials onto buttons, and then I stitched the buttons onto the sweater stockings.

While your children are busy making Christmas decorations like the large paper ornament that my son made, you may repurpose old sweaters to make Christmas stockings (I love it).
